| Thanks
for visiting our site. We are Kelly Thomas, age 18,
and John Thomas, age 15. John attends Flintridge
Preparatory School in La Canada, California, where
Kelly did as well before going off to college at Colby
College in Maine.
In
May, John won Fourth Place in the California State Science
Fair with his project, “Let Worms Recycle Your Garbage”.
Through this, we became extremely interested in the subject
and discovered how easy and beneficial vermicomposting
is. We started giving small seminars to curious friends
and neighbors and set up worm bins for them. Next,
we were asked to speak on this topic at garden clubs and
home owners’ associations. Lately, we have been lecturing
in elementary school classrooms in our area so that children
will understand the vermicomposting process and, perhaps,
convince their parents to give it a try. Read about
Wormboy in the news.
Currently,
we are creating a “How To” booklet and instructional video
to be used by the City of Glendale. Glendale already
gives its residents hot composting bins for their yard waste.
However, since the majority of Glendale’s population is
apartment dwellers, hot composting is not an option for
most Glendale residents. Vermicomposting can be the answer
for them.

In
the meantime, people are making use of this website for
information and utilizing us as on-line consultants.
We are happy to answer any questions about vermicomposting
that may arise. Our response time is usually quite
rapid, but sometimes our academic courseload keeps us from
replying immediately. We will respond as quickly as
we can.
Another
project that occupies our time and we are very pleased with
is our Write
a Senior Citizen website. This program provides
Senior Citizens from all over the world with the opportunity
to obtain Pen Pals. Some of the Pen Pals are from
areas as remote as Nepal, Kosovo, Prague, Japan, Italy,
and Belgium as well as all over the United States, Canada
and the British Isles. The Write
a Senior Citizen program is extremely active and
has been one of the most rewarding activities we have ever
been involved in. Feel free to visit Write
a Senior Citizen.
In
our spare time, Kelly is co-captain of our school’s track
team on which she hurdles, sprints, long jumps and triple
jumps. On May 22, 2000, we were recognized by the United
States Congress and received a Congressional Commendation
for our work on our Write
a Senior Citizen Site as well as our other senior citizen
related community service programs. [read
the text of the Commendation] John has made our school’s
Varsity Tennis Team as a Freshman and plays First Doubles.
He was top singles player on our middle school’s team.
Lately, we were honored to win the international Do
a Good Deed Contest sponsored
by doctorrelation.comfor
our various community service activities. Our prize
was a Gateway computer, software package and two year internet
service connection.
After
visiting numerous colleges this summer in search of the
“perfect” college after her senior year at Prep, Kelly will
be attending Colby
College in Maine.. John, the burgeoning entrepreneur,
is selling items on E-bay and spending as much time as possible
learning about the business world from our father.
He is extremely involved in our school’s Key Club helping
run events such as an MS Walk. For a couple of years,
we both have, also, been very involved in webpage
designing. Currently, John is designing a website
for Twelve Oaks Retirement Home which is sponsored by National
Charity League and a website for our school’s Key Club.
Recently,
we have been asked by Narc-a-non and Los Angeles Foster
Children’s Association to speak to their groups as representatives
of what teenagers can accomplish. Many of our friends are
doing wonderful things. We are pleased that it is
being recognized that not all teenagers are troubled.
Any
spare time is dedicated to volunteering at United States
Congressman James Rogan’s campaign office working on his
website, doing precinct walks, mailings and answering phones.
Practicing piano, playing in competitions, exhibitions,
retirement homes and recitals, baby-sitting and working
for the International
Institute for Young Musicians rounds out our incredibly
busy schedules.
We
are very concerned about saving landfill space. Vermicomposting
is an easy, inexpensive way to potentially save eight percent
of our landfill space, while at the same time, producing
wonderfully nutritious compost out of kitchen scraps.
It is a very simple concept. Anyone can do it.
Give it a try. You’ll see how elementary vermicomposting
really is. If you have any questions about this process,
please feel free to email us. Help save landfill space
for future generations, while, at the same time, producing
a terrific product for your houseplants and gardens.
Thanks,
again, for visiting.

and John Thomas
