A Poem by Don

Pebbles

If you found a pebble on the beach
that soothed you with it's little ways
would you keep it on the mantlepiece
to love for all your days ?

If you found a pebble on the beach
to take home to esteem
but then you found it cut and hurt
just to make you scream

If you found a pebble on the beach
so warm and bright like me
Would you think again what made you sad
and kick it in the sea ?

Would you throw away your pebbles
the good with all the bad
so you wouldn't have to think again
of those that made you sad ?

Would you stop collecting pebbles
to brighten up your day ?
and only think of those that hurt
yet so hard to throw away

So there you are - all on your own
no pebbles you can reach
Just take a chance - put on your coat
and go looking on the beach.
