Old Kilroy
Was Here
by Don
As I
drive around the county in my daily job
I notice all the drivers as I pass
And one thing that stands apart - in this seething mob
it's the gray haired geriatric and his lass
There's
getting more and more of them crowding up the road
as they drive to get their pension or their stout
They never use their bus pass - timetables all in code
and there's plenty of pedestrians to clout
They're
busy, busy, busy, zooming here and zooming there
passing all the days that they have left
you would have thought that they'd slow down and take a bit
of care
as deftly through the crowded roads they cleft
They
like to scare the milkman and the postman with his letter
As they back out from the garage with a roar
and there's nothing they can think of that is anything much
better
than flying with all four wheels off the floor
When
they come to earth again they're doing ninety three
and gray hair streams behind them like a flag
aged knuckles on the driving wheel and Maisie yelling "Wheee"
Their Mini just might have been a Jag
Oh, How
I really envy them - I really must drive faster
to keep up with this aged madding crowd
to wave aloft my pension book and daily court disaster
to be just once more noticed - I'll be proud
