Our Beautiful little puppy " Buster "

By Ruthe

Many years ago we four little sisters wanted a puppy very badly, our mama and daddy always frowned when we would start mentioning about how wonderful a little dog would be to love and to care for, we lived in a cold area in the Midwest, and enjoyed our snow time every winter--- sledding, making snowmen, and our ice skating on the ponds a short distance from where we lived was always great fun. Our older sister Aline was always teaching we three little ones how to do so many things and what fun times we all would have sliding down big snow drifts, snowball fights, playing tag and sliding around and getting complexly buried in 3 foot drifts of white fluffy snow how happy we little kids were , and couldn't wait for tomorrow to come to get back into the snow. How great it would have been to have a puppy to join in with us with all our fun times in the snow.

Aline had a newspaper route that she worked each and every morning, she was a very dedicated young girl and only 13 years old-- she would carry as many as 75 papers a day, never a complaint from any of her nice customers because they would know if the their paper was late and sometimes not delivered would not be her fault--- weather most generally would be the reason for any delays, One very cold morning and getting ready to carry her papers with the temperatures very low and wind chill of possibly going down below zero, she was bundled real good with warm clothes and a scarf wrapped all around her face and throat and then she was ready to deliver 75 papers, what a courageous little person, she didn't miss a single customer this very cold morning, but she was starting to have chills and was hurrying to finish her route to get home and get her wet snowy clothes off to get warm dry ones on. Then with her last paper she was getting ready to throw came a big surprise to her, this nice woman come to her door and called for her to come in to drink a hot chocolate . Aline was so happy to go in to get warm and while drinking her chocolate she saw 2 little snow white puppies playing on the floor, she couldn't resist picking one of them up to love, and in her mind said--- I wish I could take this little puppy home to my little sisters. ( knowing she couldn't though ) The kind lady said * Aline you've been so good to us not ever missing a day with the paper, and would you like to keep this little puppy as a Christmas Present from us?

We are wanting you to have him because he'll be getting a good home with you and your family. Aline didn't hesitate a minute on this beautiful offer, you can imagine what happiness this cold morning had brought to our big sister, and what a surprise this was going to be for her whole family.

She was so elated and thanked this lady for her kindness, she picked up this little bundle of fur and put him in her empty paper bag which was still very warm from the newspapers, she ran most of the way home and so happy to know how badly we all wanted a little puppy. Couldn't wait to show us what was in her paper bag, and then she suddenly realized she hadn't discussed this with mama and daddy----will they make her take him back--- oh, surely not ! ! !

While slowly opening the door and looking around to see who was up at this very early hour and how she would have to explain what had happened--- mama met her at the door and immediately started taking off her cold and wet clothes, she felt pretty safe now that it was our mama instead of our dad, because after showing mama this puppy she couldn't turn him down after seeing him, Aline was convinced now that this would be our very own little puppy that we little sisters have wanted for so long.

After lifting him from the paper bag mama did fall in love with him she didn't hesitate one bit and said he'll be a new member of our family, mama soon started calling all of us to get up out of our beds and come see what our big sister has brought us for Christmas, even our daddy agreed that he was to become our little playmate. What a wonderful Christmas this will be for our whole family, and how we loved our big sister for the gift of love she had given all of us. We had Aline name him and she called him Buster, he turned out to be a great watch dog and was a true companion to all of us.

Buster was about 3 years old when one day he disappeared, we all looked everywhere, placed ads and rode up and down streets looking for him but never ever found him, we all cried many times for him even Daddy was lost without him, what a beautiful and devoted little dog he had become and now our hearts are all broken because someone else wanted him. We all realized he had been stolen and we would never see him again, as I write my story here my tears are still coming, how a little puppy can bring such happiness to everyone if one can allow a little pet to enter their lives.

I must finish my true story and I shall be able to end it with a beautiful ending, and how blessed we all are to have had a miracle happen to our family, 3 years later and no sign of Buster but never a day goes by that we don't think of him--- our daddy was on a carpenter job far across town-- he had stopped to eat his lunch, he noticed a little white furry haired dog sitting under his car, he looked carefully at him thinking it looked so much like Buster, and after about 30 minutes and finishing his lunch the little dog was still under the car and hadn't moved, this really puzzled our dad and he decided to call the dog using his name--- our Buster had come back he remembered the car, he hastily ran and jumped right into our daddy's arms after hearing his name, needless to say what a surprise this was to our dad--- he immediately called Buster into his car and drove him home to his family. A genuine reunion with laughter and many tears. Miracles can happen and also Prayers can be answered. We all had wished for both and now we've been blessed.

Thank you, and my wishes are always with you that you will have good health and happiness in your Golden Years.

Truly yours,

Ruthe
