My
very dreaded but true story here to write-- it was Corky's last
request for me to do, and I promised her it would be done.(Quite
hard though and through some tears) I accomplished her last request, and
it was a sad mission for me.
A
Journey to Heaven
Three
months ago today ( and on our Mothers Birthday ) I promised my dying
sister Corky her request would be honored, she wanted me to write
a very funny story of she, her family and friends during her long
endurance with a culprit called * CANCER. A disease she could not
destroy from her beautifully healthy body and finally after 10 months
she conceded to this monster, she closed her eyes and started her
journey to a complete and unforeseen place in heaven. God had already
made her reservations for the empty chair in the gorgeous Gardens---
God took her hand and led her on a long and enjoyable trip she was
soon to be joined with her loving husband Charles, her mother and
father, her sister Geneva with all her relatives and friends already
there and waiting for her to arrive.
Corky
had explained to me earlier how great this beautiful garden will
be when God calls her, a picture from her showing me this tremendous
piece of art that heaven has waiting for all of us when our day
comes, and I can see why she was so anxious and wanted to soon be
called. We both talked about God and exchanged our different views
about death and the heavens we would soon be sharing, her determination,
attitude and her desire to leave was so very encouraging to me,
watching her in preparation getting everything in order as she was
very particular about keeping all files and paper work in dire neatness,
never wanting her kids to have a struggle finding necessary items
when her time would come to her.
While
visiting her a few days before her death our older sister Aline,
her daughter Cheryl and I was playing cards knowing that Corky was
sleeping and looked very comfortable--- when suddenly she called
to us to get her up and she wanted to sit at our card table--- she
sat down and asked to be dealt in with our game, needless to say
what a surprise this was to all of us, we immediately included her
in the game she then preceded to beat everyone of us ( playing for
money--- too ). What a fun evening we all was having with her story
telling and especially about her recent bout with this incurable
disease, and making so much fun of herself with this illness she
was enduring-- her Son David was her care taker and was taking care
of her in his home, he is a very jovial young man with much humor,
his mom started telling us some of their experiences and after David
left the room she looked at me and said you must write this story
about this one particular incident that they both were involved
in, and a first for them both--- I agreed to write the story ---
she seemed so contented to have me do this and she insisted it had
to be a funny one. I reassured her it would be funny.
During
this long struggle Corky had many medications and some just did
not agree with her digestive system there was times she'd be very
sick at her stomach and then times with a diarrhea, and this particular
time she was suffering a severe bowel impactment---poor David after
going in to give her some care she looked up at him and very quietly
asked him if he had ever heard of a bowel impactment ---- he screwed
up his face in every which way saying huh? and before he could answer
with a no-- she interrupted him by telling him there was a rubber
glove in her medicine cabinet, she was laughing so hard telling
us this and trying to show David's expression that she had us all
in stitches, Corky-- knowing all along that David would not be helping
her here with this miserable ordeal because her daily nurse was
coming in within that hour, however David was unaware of this visit,
how funny she was in telling us this and yet she was so very ill
and so near death. What a brave little soul she was.
We
certainly made our last visit with our little sister with nothing
but laughter, our funny stories of our past experiences and so many
laughs, we ended our visit without one tear, but with a great big
hug a kiss and a smile as we departed, we now are waiting to soon
go to her beautiful garden where she'll be there waiting for us..
Corky's in heaven now and she has been blessed --- we all know she
is in a much better place than she was down here on earth. Bless
her little heart she was a real trooper and went to heaven in a
beautiful way.
She'll
certainly be missed by us all.
May
God bless all of you---
